CBC Kitchener Waterloo Interviewed me

A few weeks back I shared a lovely conversation with Jasmine, and it turned into an interview!

We talked about growing garlic, the different kinds of garlic and how I got into garlic. We talked about a lot of things, and she beautifully condensed it into a radio show and written story:

Nothing like a good head of garlic | The Morning Edition - K-W | On Demand | CBC Listen

Years ago, our family was gifted a couple of bulbs from a neighbour who taught Philosophy at Wilfred Laurier and rented land to keep his garlic collection thriving in Nithburg, Ontario. We planted those first twelve strains of garlic in 2001 and grew them out for our own pleasure, before adding several more and expanding the crop into a seed garlic business. It only takes a few cloves to get started.

Sales have finished for the season, and I feel joy in contemplating all the cloves that I've sent out there, soon to be planted. I do not have the volume of garlic that I used to - I will have even less next year - it is an adjustment for me, and one that is timely. I'm planning on doing only farm gate sales in the future, unless someone out there (in Alberta, say...) really needs my Aglio Rosso for their collection ;-)

It is, and always will be, fun to share garlic with you, whether in words or seeds.

Happy planting my friends,
Julie Fleischauer
